Difference between Chiropractic Medicine and Osteopathy

The founder of Chiropractic Medicine – as we know it today – was D.D. Palmer. It is claimed that D.D. Palmer visited the founder of Osteopathic Medicine – Dr. Andrew Taylor Still – in Kirksville Missouri in the 1890s and learned manipulative techniques there. For this reason, many claim that Chiropractic Medicine branched off of Osteopathy which had been being practiced and taught by the founder of Osteopathy – A.T. Still – as early as the 1870s.
In general, the main focus of a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine is spinal and joint health, since spinal health results in the health of the entire system. The main focus of an Osteopath is the entire body: including the spine, joints, digestive system, hormone system, immune system, circulatory system, nervous system etc. Both medical branches use manual techniques to improve overall health and well-being.
